For me, creating art is an act of prayer. It is as if I am chatting with my Creator and Creator responds with art. Art is then a reflection of my relationship with Creator. My first experience with this was when I was writing my book. I used art as a means of exploring my understanding of “soul.”

Spiritual Direction

One of the greatest gifts I ever gave myself was spiritual direction. I was hungry to know the Spirit within and to search for its meaning in my life. I was blessed with a spiritual director who traveled with me in this grand exploration. Through spiritual direction I have come to know that my life’s purpose is nurturing the human spirit. One of the ways I do this is by offering spiritual direction.

What is Spiritual Direction?

Someone once told me that spiritual direction is like personal training for the soul. And so it is. It is about exploring your soul: the essence of who you are and how it manifests in your life. It is about your relationship with the divine and how it speaks to you. It is about curiosity and searching the mysteries of the heart.

As a spiritual director, I am your spiritual traveling companion. I listen. I hold your story in my heart. I help you open the door to your soul. I help you explore ways to deepen and enrich your relationship with Spirit.

Spiritual direction is not therapy, counseling, pastoral counseling, or religious education. My practice is ecumenical and open to persons of all faiths and those of no faith tradition.

Sessions are one hour, once or twice a month. I offer a free introductory session after which the fee is on a sliding scale.

About the Hat.

In another lifetime, when I was a camp counselor and camp director I had a song hat. One of my unique skills was song leading. This hat – a big, orange floppy Carol Burnett cleaning lady hat – was adorned with many mementos given to me by campers. These gifts ranged anywhere from a big red feather flower to pins, buttons, patches and other items that had no particular purpose but to remind me of some memorable moment, make a kid smile, and adorn my hat. When I put this hat on I was transformed into what I now know was the person God made me to be: joyful, soulful, and a shining light to anyone I encountered. Along the way I lost this hat. Years later I had a broche made of this hat and wore it all the time. I lost it, too. I shared this story with a dear friend, who observed that I had lost it twice and perhaps no longer needed the hat. My friend was right. Today, I carry this hat in my heart and you see it reflected in everything I do. This is what I bring to spiritual direction.
